Clowning is more than just painted faces and oversized shoes – it’s an art form built on authenticity, connection, and trust. Because once you’re labeled as an ineffective clown, and you’ve ‘fallen’ both the accusation of truth and lie will find it’s way pounding on your door, bringing you into account.
As a clown, rising above being accused of anything is nearly impossible. Simple reminders that clowns are never private is a good place to start. Use the restroom several times before an event. If you must use the facilities, keep everything funny. The line that made everyone laugh for me as a clown is“ That is way too small to be the pool, and I am not going in pools too small. My nose will get wet! If my nose gets wet, I might turn into an alligator. So scary! ’
Always keep your hands visible to everyone, especially near children and the vulnerable. Avoid putting everyone on your lap. This is especially important for men. Comedically blow kisses great distances across the room. If questioned why, stay in character of a clown at all cost. You exist for the laughter.3. When I put a picture of Suds, photoshopped on Fox News announcing his campaign for president, this gentleman walks by my door and laughs or smiles.
